OPTICAL BRIGHTENING AGENT FOR PAPER

Physical Appearance: Greenish yellow Powder
Solubility: 300 - 350 g/l (25 °C above)
Moisture content: 5 % Max
pH: 7 - 9 (10 g/l solution)

Properties:
  • 100% active Tetrasulfonated OBA powder
  • Produces a neutral to slightly bluish white
  • Stable to water hardening substances
  • Neutral to weakly alkaline reaction
  • Stability: Suitable for application in pH range: 4.5 - 11

Applications:
Wet end, Size press, and some coating applications. Provides very cost effective brightness increase up to moderately high brightness levels.

Stock solutions may be made by dissolving 5% to 20% solids in water (soft water recommended). Maintain pH in the range of 7 - 9, if necessary adjust with caustic soda.

May also be added dry to pulper during preparation assuming adequate mixing and dissolving time. One good technique is to add the powder to charge water in a hydropulper before pulp addition. In many cases may also be added dry to starch solutions after cooking is complete. Please assure adequate mixing for complete dispersion and disolving. May also be suitable for addition to water based coatings.

As with all OBA products, brightness will increase with increased addition up to a peak point, after which brightness may increase very slowly or may start to decrease. For best results and economy be sure that addition amounts do not exceed the peak performance addition level.

Do not store powder or stock solutions in contact with direct light as this will degrade product effectiveness. Avoid storage in areas of high temperature.
