Kalamazoo Paper Chemicals represents many major suppliers to industries around the world. These

companies include Wilkinson Kaolin Corp., Huygen Instruments, Cargill Inc., , IGT Reprotest and many others.

Product lines include a variety of Coating Chemicals and Additives, Kaolin Clay, Pulp and Paper Quality and Testing Instrumentation.

Kalamazoo Paper Chemicals produces several important devices for paper process control. These devices are for use "on machine" including instruments for on machine porosity / density measurement and for the measurement of surface contaminants and linting. These include:

POROLOG MICRO 5000:
On Machine Porosity Sensor

The POROLOG MICRO 5000 is an instrument which is widely used to detect changes in porosity on the moving paper web. It is used for a variety of grades for which porosity is an important specification as well as for many in which porosity is unimportant. This is due to the fact that porosity is an excellent indicator of refining, coating or size press holdout penetration, wet end operation, formation, and runability.

This instrument works very much like a Gurley densometer as it measures the time required for a fixed volume of air to pass through the sheet. Unlike the Gurley, this is accomplished with vacuum rather than with positive pressure so that the instrument only needs to contact the sheet on one side.

Most installations are connected directly to the mill's own process control computer system to provide trending, correlations, and wide distribution of the data generated.

The Porolog Micro 5000 is inexpensive and easy to install on most paper machines. In many cases it has returned its investment in only a few days. Please Email Us for more details.

MACMILLAN BLOEDEL LINT TESTER
On machine measurement of surface contamination

The MacMillan Bloedel Lint & Dust Tester is used "on machine" for the measurement of loose or weakly bound fiber, filler, "lint", or other surface contaminants such as felt hairs, on the paper.

This patented instrument operates with a three stage head which loosens any weakly bound surface materials, raises it to the head, and then removes it to the internal filter card which captures the contaminants. This system allows the operator to both quantify and later identify the nature of the surface particles.

Originally designed for newsprint, this method has found excellent applications in a variety of grades including fine printing papers, paperboard, linerboard, and even coated papers for the evaluation of slitter dust.

The MB Linting Dusting Tester is mounted on a portable cart so that it can be easily moved around the mill, from machine to machine, or to different test points on a machine. It requires only electrical power and compressed air to operate.
